Landscape Benefits by the Numbers

Economic, Health & Environmental

While a properly maintained landscape provides aesthetic benefits, it also offers numerous other economic, health and environmental advantages, such as...

    • A well-designed landscape is welcoming and invites customers in the door, producing higher occupancy rates, increased rentals and lower vacancies. 1

    • Landscaping can add as much as 14 percent resale value to a building and speed up the sale of a building by as much as six weeks. 1

    • The proper selection and placement of plant material can lower heating and cooling costs by as much as 20 percent. 1

    • The net cooling effect of one young, healthy tree is equivalent to 10 room-size air conditioners operating 20 hours a day. 3

    • Plants absorb pollutants and block noise levels. For example, a cypress hedge planted two feet thick along the front of a property will reduce street noise by five decibels. 1

    • Visual exposure to plant settings has produced significant recovery from stress within five minutes. 2

    • In office environments where plants are present, employees were 12 percent more productive and less stressed than those who worked in environments without plants. 4

    • In office environments with interior plants, there was a 20 percent reduction in fatigue, 30 percent reduction in headaches and 84 percent increase in overall well being.5
